Lexine Willis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Congleton Funeral Home and Cremations - Greenville on Dec. 22, 2025.
Memories are treasures, no one can steal,

Death leaves a hurt, that only God can heal.

Some may forget, now that you're gone,

But we will remember, no matter how long.

The Family

Lexine Willis was born on June 18, 1954, in Pitt County, North Carolina to the late Frank and Irene Willis. She departed from this earthly home on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the ECU Health Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Lexine was educated in the Pitt County School District and attended Bethel Union High School, making life-long friends along the way. She retired from the Pitt County School System in 2015, serving almost 29 years as a bus driver.

Lexine has been a member of the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church for more than 45 years. She served faithfully in the Choir #2, even in the midst of her failing health. On October 19, 2025, her last Sunday singing with the choir, she sang "her" song, "Lord, You've Been Good". Over the years, she diligently served as the Kitchen Committee Chairperson and was a faithful member of the Hospitality Club. Lexine had a deep passion for flowers and loved cooking "soul food" for her family and friends.

Preceded in her death include: her parents, Frank, Sr. and Irene Willis; siblings, Rosa Ward, Frank Willis, Jr., Jimmy Coffield, and Joyce Willis.

Those left to cherish her memories include her dedicated children, son, Greg Willis (Melissa) of Winterville, NC and daughter, Tawanda Willis of Durham, NC; a devoted friend of 35 years, Ernest Spruill of Greenville, NC; four siblings, Daniel Willis of Wilson, NC, Peggy Willis of Newburgh, NY, Vickie Joyner of Greenville, NC and Corine Willis of New Windsor, NC; two grandchildren, Jasmine Willis and Kayla Willis of Greenville, NC; two great-grandchildren, Skylar Willis and Zoie Willis, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
