Lia Agnes Moe, beloved mom, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, at the age of 65.
Lia was born December 10, 1959, in Minneapolis, MN, the first of seven daughters to Harold and Mary Hapsch. She and her family moved to Howard Lake, MN when she was 12-years old where she grew to love riding and training horses. Lia graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1978.
Lia's passion for horses carried on throughout her life – collecting horses and riding whenever she had the opportunity.
Above all, Lia loved her family. She took tremendous pride in her children and grandchildren. She proudly attended every sporting event, concert and program always showing her love and support.
Lia moved into Essentia Health St. Mary's in Detroit Lakes, MN in March of 2025 when she began receiving support from HIA Hospice. At St. Mary's she made her presence known on the dance floor and at Bingo, often bargaining for her favorite treats. She received exceptional care from many nurses, caretakers, and staff as she battled brain cancer.
Lia is survived by her family: her children, Jason (Sara) Moe of West Fargo, ND, Kelly (Jessie) Whitworth of Monahans, TX. Her grandchildren: Aubri Whitworth, Lydia Moe, Ashtyn Pope, Anika Moe, Cole Whitworth, Mack Whitworth, Cali Keller, Mason Keller, Bode Keller. Her sisters: Ann Miller (Paul), Laura Hapsch, Renee Hapsch (Mike Klucas), Maria Antil (Kevin), Emily Gruenhagen (Glenn), brother-in-law, Shawn Heaver, and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary, and sister, Leslie.
A celebration of Lia's life will be held on November 22nd at 11:00 AM at Stockholm Township Community Center, Cokato, MN. A light lunch will be served following the service.
