Libbie Frances Melichar

Libbie Frances Melichar (nee Broz), age 94, of Indian Head Park, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, October 20, 2025. Born in Chatham, Ontario, Canada, she was the adoring daughter of the late Adolf and Frances Broz and beloved wife of the late George E. Melichar.

Libbie was born and raised in Ontario, Canada and had a wonderful life growing up with her parents in London, Ontario, and later on a farm in Dresden, Ontario. She married George in 1954, and lived in the Chicago area, where they raised their children. They were married for 56 happy years.

For many years, she was an active member and volunteer of several Junior Women's clubs; she enjoyed sewing, an alterations business and making quilts. She was a highly engaged and hands-on grandmother who spent much time with her grandchildren and attended many of their games, events, and birthday parties. She spent many warm winters in Naples, FL where she enjoyed taking walks along the beach and spending time in the sunshine. She continued to visit her family home in Canada for many years, taking her children and later the grandchildren where they spent many happy summers together.

Libbie's life can be best described by her love for her family. Family was the most important thing in her life; she loved to spend time with family and friends; she always had a smile on her face and a radiant personality. Her passion was enjoying coffee or dinner, chatting and catching up, and shopping trips. She was an animal lover, and adored her late cats, Boo and Romeo.

To sum up Libbie's personality, she was a strong and wonderful person who had a unique way of making everyone feel special, and who always had a positive outlook on life. Her family hopes to continue that love and positivity in her memory.

Surviving are her children, Linda (Gerald) Ragusin, Sherry (Daniel) Devine, George (Jill) Melichar Jr, along with her grandchildren, Samantha Ragusin, George W. (Brianna) Melichar, Carter (Brynn) LaCesa, Nicholas LaCesa, Marissa Ragusin, and Lindsay Melichar, as well as great-granddaughter Isla Melichar, and step-great-grandson Kian Heimsoth. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Lauren LaCesa.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM, at Westchester Community Church, 1840 Westchester Blvd, Westchester, IL 60154, followed by a funeral service at the church at 10:30 AM with the Pastor Joe Mills officiating.

Libbie will be interred with her husband at Bronswood Cemetery in Oakbrook, IL immediately following the service.
