Liborio Cantu Lozano

Liborio C. Lozano [Lee] (September 3, 1935 – May 4, 2024) and Estella Ortiz Lozano [Stella/Tello] (February 7, 1938 - May 3, 2024), were called home by our Lord within 3 hours of each other. Lee, a native of Beeville, TX, and Stella, from El Paso, TX, celebrated 55 years of marriage on January 26, 2024. They were faithful members of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and loved their church family.

Lee and Stella are survived by their children, Christy (Alejandro), Ron (Adriana), Robert (Laurie), 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, as well as Stella’s sister Irma (Robert) and brother Rudy (Joyce).

Their lives came together “out in the west Texas town of El Paso” as Lee was stationed at Fort Bliss. Stella worked as a clerk with the El Paso Police Department when they met and Lee had decided to make a career of his time in the Army, after having been drafted in 1962 and completing his second tour in Vietnam. This fateful meeting at a friend’s party would lead to a beautiful life for two souls clearly meant to spend their earthly time together. Their mutual love of music, dancing, camping & fishing, games and sports (especially the Dallas Cowboys) would always ensure fun times. Stella loved to hear Lee sing although they both laughed as they admitted he couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket.

Lee’s chosen career in defense of our country and Stella’s adventurous nature would take them across the country and to Europe, where Lee served three tours in Germany and where Christy was born. After a final overseas tour in Korea, Lee’s military career would culminate with 22 years of service and a rank of SFC (E-7). They would then settle in El Paso where they were surrounded by loving family and friends. But the fun times were just getting started.

Lee hired on with the El Paso ISD Transportation Department, where he worked another 22 years in their Auto Shop. He would eventually retire as the Shop Foreman. For many years, Stella was a proud member of the El Paso ISD PTA and a testing proctor at El Paso Community College (EPCC). Stella also served as President for the Parkland High School Band Boosters. Their love of sports extended to local teams as well. You may remember buying a ticket from one of them at a game of their beloved Diablos where they worked for many years. Or maybe you remember Lee taking your ticket and helping you find your seat at a UTEP football or basketball game.

Lee & Stella’s twilight years were equally full as they gathered regularly with family and friends for celebrations, Cowboys games, taking exercise walks at the mall, dancing at the senior center, or trying their luck at a casino. Even when spending time at home, they enjoyed working on puzzles or playing games. 

Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Reynaldo G. Lozano & Isabel C. Lozano, his brother, Lionel Lozano, & Sister, Leodanda Lozano Farias. 
 Stella is preceded in death by her parents, Epigmenio Ortiz & Maria del Refugio Vallejo Ortiz, sisters Lucina, Emma, Gloria, Dora and brothers, Raul, Mario, Jesus and Alfonso (Poncho).

Visitation will be from 4:00 - 5:30pm on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Dr. Rosary will follow at 6:00pm at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30am on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 10000 Pheasant Dr. Committal Service to follow at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
