Librada Herrera Chavarria, affectionately known as "Lala" passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, at the age of 93. She was born on May 17, 1932, in Presidio, Texas, to Juan and Lupe Herrera. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, LaLa's life was a testament to the values of family and devotion.
On January 29, 1955, Lala married the love of her life, Flavio Chavarria, and together they shared 67 beautiful years until his passing. Her dedication extended beyond her home; for 42 years, she worked for the Fort Stockton Independent School District, where she was known for her kindness, work ethic, and unwavering support for the educational community.
Lala was a vibrant spirit who adored her family and cherished every moment spent with them.
Lala was preceded in death by her beloved husband Flavio, her parents Juan and Lupe Herrera, her sisters: Josephine Franco and Aurora Alvarado, her brother Juan Herrera, Jr., her son-in-law Desmo Casas, and her cherished great-granddaughter Jocelyn Vargas.
She is survived by her daughters: Sylvia and Ismael Ranger, Irma Casas and Ninfa Chavarria.
Her legacy continues through her granddaughters; Ashley and JR Vargas, Lacy and Matthew Barth, Lindsey and Conrad Duran, and Allison and Juan Subia, along with her great-grandchildren Kiana and Xavier Vargas, Ethan and Luke Barth, and Layla, Alaya, and Ivan Subia. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will fondly remember her warmth and generosity.
Lala had a love for Bingo that brought her joy and laughter, making memories with family and friends. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special and loved, and her spirit will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Funeral services will be held in her honor, with a viewing taking place at Heritage Funeral Home of the Big Bend Chapel on December 4, 2025, at 12:00pm, followed by a Rosary recited that evening at 7:00 PM. A Mass celebrating LaLa's life will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on December 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a Graveside Service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In this time of mourning, let us remember Librada "LaLa" Herrera Chavarria's incredible life and the countless lives she enriched with her love, laughter, and devotion. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will be cherished forever.
