Liene Chaudhuri Obituary

Liene Chaudhuri
February 25, 1946 - June 8, 2025
Liene (Januska) Chaudhuri, 79, died on June 8, 2025, in Danbury, Connecticut, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Born on February 25, 1946, in a refugee camp in Esslingen, Germany, Liene entered the world under challenging circumstances after her family fled Latvia during World War II. Her early experiences instilled resilience and hope-qualities that would guide her throughout her life. As a young child, she emigrated with her parents, Alida and Rudolfs Januska, to Canada, settling in Hamilton, Ontario.
An only child, Liene was dearly loved by her parents, who nurtured in her the values of education, integrity, and hard work. She graduated from McMaster University in 1968 and went on to earn her master's degree at the University of Toronto, where she met her future husband, Partha Chaudhuri. Partha and Liene were married in 1974 and later settled in Stony Point, New York, where they raised their children.
A dedicated librarian and lifelong avid reader, Liene had a great appreciation for language, learning, and storytelling. She was loyal, honest, and fiercely devoted to her children. She adored animals-especially dogs-and found peace in nature and wonder beneath the night sky. In retirement, she enjoyed her home in Naples, Florida, where she embraced the warmth of the sun, the community, and a more relaxed pace of life.
Perhaps her most treasured role was grandmother. A steady, loving presence, she cared for her grandsons-Alexander, Evan, and Leo-with the same affection and dedication she had shown her own children.
Liene is survived by her children, Neil Chaudhuri and Anita Meconiates; her son-in-law, Tony Meconiates; and her three grandsons.
She was deeply loved and will be missed dearly.
In keeping with Liene's wishes, memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to support cancer research and patient care. Donations can be made online at https://giving.mskcc.org.

It´s hard to put into words the sadness I feel in losing such a beautiful soul. Liene had away to make every moment feel joyful and every outing special whether we were trying a new restaurant or joining in on a community activity. She was kind, thoughtful and deeply loved.

As I always texted you on your birthday, I will continue to say a little prayer for you every time I think of you - especially every year on your birthday. You are not forgotten, you are loved. Rest peacefully my dear friend. Your memory lives on in all of us.

I worked with Liene at Valley Cottage Library and remember her fondly. She was always positive, cheerful and helpful AND an excellent librarian. Working with and knowing her was a pleasure and a privilege. I was very sorry to hear about her illness. My sincere condolences to all of her family.
