Lila Lee Casler, formerly of Amarillo, passed peacefully just two days after her 99th birthday on May 28, 2024, in Lindale, Texas.
The family will receive guests on Sunday, June 2, 2024, from 1 pm to 5 pm at Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia in Amarillo. Funeral Services will take place on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 10 am in the funeral home’s Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, 6969 I-40 East in Amarillo.
Lila was a proud Amarillo and Texas native. She married Dee Varde Casler on June 16, 1950, and they had five children. Lila traveled around the world twice and talked to everybody in it at least once. She and Dee opened and operated Honey Crust Hams of Amarillo for 20+ years. She was a Houston Astros fan at heart but tolerated the Texas Rangers as well. She worked as a Bell Telephone operator, a switchboard operator at the Herring Hotel and as a bank teller in her youth.
Lila was a member of Rebekah Lodge #276 for many years and was an avid bowler. She also loved to bake and was the proud owner of numerous Tri-State Fair Blue Ribbons for her famous sugar cookies and other desserts. She was very proud of her family and could often be found in the stands cheering on her kids and grandkids as they competed in baseball, basketball, softball, tennis, and bowling.
Those left to cherish her memory are their five children: David, Debbie (Mike), Rob (Richard), Rick (Sharon) and Daron (Kristi) and her sisters Marlene and Sherry. She was a proud Grammie to Dawn, Tami, Melinda, Rachel, Darby, Corey, Mindy, Kyle, Courtney, Cydni, Ricky, Eric and Brian. Through the years, she added 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; Dee, granddaughter; Tami, siblings; Lance, Winona, Larry, and her parents Eugene and Grace Shackelford.
Rest in Peace, Mom. We will miss you, but you'll live in our hearts forever. We love you.
