Lila Merle Jenkins Higgins, age 84, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
Lila was born on Wednesday, July 17, 1940 in Spartanburg County to the late Monroe Jenkins and Joan Vassey Jenkins. She graduated from Sunshine High School in 1958 and was a member Plainview Baptist Church. Lila worked for many years as a seamstress, and enjoyed reading, word search books, and cooking for her family. She loved each of her family dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Carver and sister-in-law, Sylvia Jenkins.
Survivors include her son, Darrell Toney (Loretta), of Forest City; daughter, Lisa Skipper of Forest City; two brothers, Harry Jenkins (Hazel), of Spartanburg, and Jimmy Jenkins of Forest City; grandchildren, Michael Toney (Michelle), Heather Hardin, Erika Robbins (Joel) and Christian Toney (Holly); great-grandchildren, Briana, Zachariah, Sarah, Charlotte, Easton, Emma, Oliver, Korbyn, Layla and Phoenix; Donna Crowe (who was like a daughter) of Rutherfordton; special caretakers, Sherry and Neil Barrier of Forest City.. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, January 1st with Reverend Jerry Ruppe officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Hospice for their compassionate care.
