Lila Cherry Putney was born in Provo, Arkansas, on September 16, 1937, to Joseph (Joe) Cherry and Mildred (Wise) Cherry. She grew up in Nashville, AR, where she played basketball. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and being with family.
Lila was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Glenda Darlene Rettmann; her parents, Joe and Mildred Cherry; her husband, Houston Putney; one brother, Jimmy Cherry; brothers-in-law, Mack Cooley and Robert Walker; and one grandson, Ezra Buck.
Lila is survived by two sisters, Billie Jo Walker of Murfreesboro, Arkansas, Betty Cooley of De Queen, AR; and one sister-in-law, Barbra Cherry of Murfreesboro, AR; her loving children, Rebecca Buck (Eugene), Debbie D'Arezzo (Rob), Jefferey Rettmann, Melissa Drew (Rodger), Sue Ellen Hooper, and Travis Putney. Lila was blessed with thirteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Lila also had many wonderful nieces and nephews and friends she loved dearly.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Putney will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 18, 2025, at McHorse Cemetery with Bro. Don Jones officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the funeral home in Dierks.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Murfreesboro Nursing and Rehab for their excellent care of Lila.
