Lillian Arnone Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 2, 2026.
Lillian Mary Arnone, age 98, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She was born on November 5, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, to her parents Anthony and Frances (nee: Buscemi) Licata. Lillian was a woman whose life was defined by her unwavering dedication to her family, her joy in simple pleasures, and her generous spirit.

The beloved matriarch of the Arnone family, Lillian was predeceased by her cherished husband, Joseph Arnone, after nearly fifty years of a loving marriage that stood as a testament to commitment and mutual respect until his passing in 1991. Together, they raised a family grounded in the values of love and support, with their children Lawrence (Toni) Arnone, Anthony (deceased) (Debra) Arnone, Paul (Monica) Arnone, Alphonse (Debra) Arnone, and Mary (Michael Breese) Arnone-Doran. Lillian was a proud grandmother to Joseph Arnone, Joseph Arnone, Paul Arnone Jr., Joseph Arnone, Nicholas Arnone, Elizabeth Reno, Anthony Arnone, Michael Arnone, Paul Arnone, Robert Arnone, and David Doran, and a doting great-grandmother to 18 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy and pride into her life. Born of an Italian immigrant father and first-generation American mother, Lillian as well as her siblings Rose (Robert-deceased) Kissel and Dr. Samuel (Audrey) Licata were raised with those strong attributes of family, determination, persistence, and hard work.

Among those attributes previously mentioned, Family was the greatest. Lillian especially loved summer weekends with family, friends, and acquaintances, for many years, at her beautiful lake home on Lake St Clair just outside Windsor Ontario. She was especially fond of lunches with her sister, daughter, daughters-in-law, and granddaughter. No reason or special occasion was required, just an opportunity to share interested conversation. Additionally, she hosted a Christmas Eve party for family and friends which was an event. The food was exquisite, the laughter and conversation were festive, and love, kindness and generosity were everywhere. Many grandchildren and great grandchildren who attended would question if "Grandma" wasn't really Santa Clause.

On her creative side, she enjoyed playing the piano, gardening and needlepoint. She was also an excellent cook. Lillian's family was all privileged to inherit these qualities which she so graciously shared with both children and grandchildren.

Beyond her personal hobbies, Lillian was a vital part of the family business, Capital Poultry at Eastern Market in Detroit, where she dedicated many years to its success alongside her family. Her involvement extended beyond the professional aspect, as she was a pillar of support and wisdom to all who worked there.

Above all, Lillian's life was characterized by her involvement with her children and grandchildren. She was a constant presence in their lives, offering guidance, comfort, and unconditional love. Her loving, kind, and thoughtful nature was evident in every interaction, and those who knew her were touched by her gentle demeanor and genuine concern for others.

A funeral Mass for Lillian will be held on Thursday, March 5th at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 22412 Overlake St., St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Lillian will lie Instate at the church starting at 9:00am. A rosary service will begin at 9:15am during the Instate time. The Mass will start at 10:00am.
