Lily Hannah Dawson Obituary

Published by Weed Corley Fish Funeral Homes and Cremation Services - North on Jun. 17, 2014.
Lily Hannah Josephine Dawson Born on March 6, 1919. Went HOME on June 17, 2014. Lily was born in a small, dusty village in India called Bethlehem, in South India. Her parents were Samuel and Koilpillai. Her father was a Christian missionary and went from village to village preaching God's Word. Her mother was a school teacher committed to spreading Christianity in the remote villages. Lily had 3 brothers and a sister. Her humble beginnings prepared her for a lifetime journey of faithfulness to her Lord. GRATITUDE and CONTENTMENT were her prominent traits. She married Gurupatham Samuel Dawson in January, 1947 and moved to Rangoon, Burma where she had her 4 kids. In 1960, due to the political unrest in Burma, the family moved to India. She was a 3rd grade teacher for 30 years. In 1988, following the demise of her husband, she moved to the US to be closer to her 4 children. She lived with her youngest daughter Julia in Austin, Texas and helped raise her kids. She was an integral and active part of Anderson Mills Baptist Church. She was involved in the Indian Christian Church in Austin, Texas and also attended the International Program at Hyde Park Baptist Church. She spent most of her later years tatting laces for everyone, watching TV shows such as Billy Graham crusades, John Hagee, Charles Stanley, the Waltons and Little House on the Prairie, reading God's word and praying for everyone. Her circle of friends ranged from toddlers to seniors. Her kind and genuine spirit and her Christ-Centered life drew others to her. Lily is survived by her four children and their families. Sheila from New York, husband Henry, their children Deepak and Roy Pam from Fort Worth, her children Karen (and child Benjamin), Jimmy and wife Lacy, Rachel and her husband Alex (and child Grayson) Lionel from Oklahoma, wife Karen and their son Drew and his wife Michelle Julia from Austin, husband Ravi, their children Andrew and his wife Jenifer, Mark and Sitara Proverbs 31:28: Her children arise and call her blessed A viewing will be held at 9am on Saturday, June 21 at Anderson Mill Baptist Church at 10633 Lake Creek Parkway, Austin 78750. Services at 10am and a Celebratory Reception in her honor from 11am to 12:30 pm will be held at the church. Burial will be held at 12:45pm at Austin Memorial Park cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive, Austin, TX 78731. Flowers may be sent to the Church for delivery between 8am and 9am on Saturday, June 21. 7 years and it still feels like you are part of my life. So many big events that I wish I could have shared with you. Being a believer gives me hope that we will see you again! Death is just a doorway into everlasting life. I am thankful for your life and the people you touched. To this day, many people fondly remember you. God has blessed me and I am grateful that you covered me in prayers daily. May we all continue to keep you in our hearts and live out the gospel as you did.

Each year that passes, the more I appreciate the influence you had on me as a child and now through my adult life. Thank you for showing me to be kind, generous, to be simple, to be genuine, to listen, to help those in need, to always be joyful no matter what because Christ has done so much for us. These are qualities that I will follow. I miss you dearly but have hope to be reunited soon.

5 years later and I still have not met anyone who had the qualties that Patti had. No one has had a greater impact than she has in my life. I am incredibly grateful that I had her influence in my life and that she pointed me towards Christ who is the ultimate example. It was evident in her writings that Jesus was her joy and her everything. Sad she has missed big milestones but am blessed with the time I spent growing up with her. I am who I am today because of her prayers.

I was lucky to have spent 51 years with mom. The only time she was not with me or vice versa was from 1983-1988. Glad that the grandkids got to know her. This would not have happened if she was in India.
Thank you mom for sacrificing so many things for your children and grandchildren. We are truly blessed.

It has been 5 years, since you left. You have always been caring and loving mom. Never seen her upset and always with a smile. She always made friends wherever she went. Kids loved her. I do hope I could be able to carry on your qualities, character and love in my life. Thanks mom for the memories. We will meet in heaven.

I had 4 grandparents, but 3 passed away when I was young. So I did not know them. I knew Grandma Lilly for many years. I am very grateful to have her as a Grandmother. She was the greatest blessing to my life.

Not a week goes by that I don't think about my dear Patti. She was one of the most influential people in my life. She taught me how to be humble, love others regardless of whether they will love you back, serve others, be selfless, live a Christ-centered life devoted to furthering His kingdom, give your best to everyone, surrender. Next to His son Jesus Christ, I am so incredibly blessed to have had her as a model example of what it means to live this life. I will never forget her smile and the joy that exuded in her was so evident. In a world where the options are limitless and we get caught up in material things, Patti never desired much. Maybe it was because she came from humble beginnings. I believe that Christ was enough for her. He completely satisfied her in all areas of her life. I miss the excitement of coming home to see her. I miss her daily prayers. I miss the encouragement she offered and the overwhelming care she gave my family. I can't thank her enough. I'm sad she has missed milestones in my life but I'm looking forward to one day seeing her again in our eternal home.
