Linda Aasen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Helgeson Funeral Home - Roseau on Dec. 3, 2025.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Linda J. Aasen or Roseau, MN will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 10:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseau, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Malung Cemetery.

Linda was born on January 19, 1952, to Oscar and Joyce Aasen (Tobin) in International Falls, MN. She attended a special school there until age 18, where she enjoyed her days and made many friends. Because of age limits she later entered another day program, but that program didn't last long.

Anyone who knew Linda knew it was her way or no way, and that strong personality stayed with her throughout her life.

In the late 1970s, Linda's family moved back to Roseau. She attended the DAC day program, and later joined Focus Corp when it opened. Through Focus she worked both in the community and onsite, meeting many people and forming lasting friendships.

Linda lived in Malung with her parents and continued to live with her mother after her father's passing. She and her mom spent much of their summers camping something they both loved. Linda had a special way of visiting neighbors and fellow campers, sometimes wandering off before her mom knew she was gone. Everyone around the campground knew her well, always welcomed her, and made sure she returned safely.

When Linda visited, the first things she went for were your mail and magazines-she loved collecting the little cards tucked inside. She also enjoyed puzzles, country music (Johnny Cash was a favorite), and her special pets, Kia and Becky. She drank more than a few diet sodas over the years, too.

After some health issues, Linda spent a short time at the Roseau Manor before moving to the LSS group home in 2013, where she lived until her passing. She loved her home and her housemates, always caring about them. She had many wonderful caregivers over the years, and you always knew if she liked you. Linda had an excellent memory and never forgot a face. A treasured photo of her and her mom, Joyce, always hung on her wall, along with her favorite saying: "I'll keep her." She enjoyed outings, going for rides, listening to music, and attending the Roseau County Fair mini stage.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Roseau Hospital for their wonderful care. One staff member even remembered her beloved Winnie the Pooh blanket-another of Linda's favorites.

Linda is survived by her aunts Hazel of International Falls, MN, and Helen Aasen of Roseau, along with many cousins.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The first thing Linda would do when she came to my house was to head to the magazines and tear out all the cards for ads. She didn't miss a one! Whenever she would see Rick no matter where it was she always would say "that's my Rick". RIP, Linda. Now you are together with your Mom and Dad
