Linda Brock Obituary
Linda Faye Jones Brock, age 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born on August 25, 1942, in Guilford County, North Carolina, to the late George Jones and Margaret Fox Jones.
Linda grew up between Jackson Springs, North Carolina, West Virginia, and Florida, and graduated from West End High School. In the early 1970s, her first husband's career brought the family to the coast of Wilmington, North Carolina. She quickly fell in love with the beach and knew she had found her forever home.
Linda retired after 26 years of dedicated service with the North Carolina State Ports. During a strike in 1973, she and a friend applied for positions at the Ports, where she began her career as a forklift operator on the docks. Through hard work and determination, she later transitioned into parts and ultimately retired as a purchaser. She was very proud of her accomplishments and the career she built there.
Linda had a deep love for the beach, especially Masonboro Island, where she spent countless weekends with family and friends soaking up the sun. She enjoyed dancing at the Elks on Saturday nights and returning to the beach again on Sundays. Her love of the sun, the ocean, and time spent with those she loved brought her immense joy.
She was also an avid gardener who took great pride in her beautifully manicured yard and her roses. Each rose bush was lovingly named after someone special in her life. Linda loved decorating her home for every holiday, but Christmas and St. Patrick's Day were her favorites, and she celebrated them with extra flair and festive spirit. She was a wonderful cook and expressed her love for others through the meals she prepared and shared.
Linda will be remembered for her fun, sweet, and kind spirit. She loved her family deeply and was immensely proud of each of them, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored and often bragged about.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Brock; her stepfather, Leonard Jones; and her special stepmother, Ophia.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Denise Jernigan (Bobby) and Angela Benton (Larry Russell); her sisters, Doris Reed and Wanda McCracken; her grandsons, Alan Flowers (Tiffany), Cameron Benton (Morgan), Robert Jernigan (Lori), and Alex Benton; her great-grandsons, Colton Flowers, Perry Benton, Tanner Flowers, Avery Benton, and Weston Jernigan; and her loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
She is also survived by her stepchildren, Sylvia Dobbins (Milton) and Ronnie Brock (Valerie); and her step-grandchildren, Jeff Dobbins (Cindy), Jennifer Williams (Ricky), Sonya Croom (Kevin), and Jason Brock.
