It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Aileen Cates, age 72, of Grand Saline, Texas. Linda passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025. She was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and spent her life sharing warmth, kindness, and an open heart with everyone she met.
Linda lived in Grand Saline for the past three years, after previously making her home in Pinetop/Lakeside. Known for her caring nature and her love of conversation, she never met a stranger. Her gentle humor, compassion, and gift for making others feel truly seen will be remembered by all who knew her. She loved deeply and wholeheartedly-especially when it came to her family.
Linda was a devoted wife to Dick Cates, her husband of 54 years. She is also survived by her son Michael Cates; her brother Carl Scott; four grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Francis Scott; her sister Phyllis Scott; her brother Ricky Scott; and her son Craig Cates.
Linda cherished time with family and enjoyed the simple joys of life. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose presence brought comfort and joy.
Honoring her wishes, there will be no formal funeral services. Linda will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread on the family farm-a place that brought her peace and happiness.
Linda's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Her generosity of spirit, warmth, and unwavering devotion to family will continue to be cherished.
