Linda Adele Smiley Cook: 1946–2025
Linda Adele Cook, 79, of Nampa, passed away into the arms of Jesus on November 4th 2025, after many health battles. Linda
resided at The Orchards of Cascadia for several years and her family is grateful for all of the loving care provided to her during
her time there.
Born on March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) 1946, in Denver, Colorado to Elvin and Geraldine Smiley, Linda consistently excelled
academically, as a Stay-at-Home Mom/Homemaker and then later in her career.
Linda spent many years managing the books for the family business and then later worked for Winco's corporate office in Boise,
in their Accounts Payable Dept, retiring from the company after a dedicated career.
Linda was a woman who was aptly named "Smiley," often wearing a warm smile and always ready with an encouraging word.
She truly embodied a kind spirit. Linda's greatest joy was her family, specifically her children, her beloved grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. She found it extra special that she shared her St. Patrick's Day birthday with her first great-grandchild Rosie.
Interests and Calling
Linda was a woman of many interests and skills including: reading, word searches, bird watching, flowers (especially iris, lilac,
tulip, and rose), quilting, crocheting, sewing, and canning. She created delicious home-cooked meals and will always be
remembered for making custom Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. An unforgettable memory for her daughters was
listening to "It's a Hard Knock Life" on the record player from Annie while mopping the kitchen floor. She pretended to be Ms.
Hannigan while her girls were the orphans being forced to do the mopping while they all sang the song at full volume. Linda was
gifted at making the mundane fun for her family. Linda enjoyed going to the movies and then out to dinner, and hosting holidays
at her home for her family. Later in life, Linda enjoyed coloring as a calming artistic outlet.
Linda was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was married in the Temple, regularly
attended Conference, and proudly served her calling in the Relief Society.
Family
Linda is survived by her sisters: Judy Shoffner and Marilyn Shrope (Louie); her daughters: Jolynn Thompson (Brian), Tracy
Cook (Lee Chapman), and Kristina Shallies (Jonah); her cherished grandchildren: Riley, Darby (Dan), Jordan, Jillian, Ellie "E"
and Zack; and her great-grandchildren Rosalee "Rosie" and Jeffrey. Linda is also survived by her dear relatives: Bodee & Jamie
Smiley, Rubella & Rochelle Trujillo (child MaeKayla); Lance and Caia (children Caleb and Lili).
Linda was preceded in death by her ex-husband (and father of her children) whom she was divorced from after 27 years of
marriage, H. John Cook; her son, Darin Cook (who passed away at age 39); her brother, Larry Smiley and her parents, Elvin (her
"Daddy"), Geraldine (her "Mother" who died from Polio when Linda was a young girl), and May (her "Mom" who raised her)
Smiley. She was also preceded by her grandparents, David & Olive (her "Granny") Akers and D.W. & Pearl Smiley.
