Linda Goodrich Joyce

 

Linda Goodrich Joyce, age 75, of Waverly, Virginia walked into the arms of her heavenly father on November 24, 2023, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are her sons: James Edward Joyce (Tammy) of Wakefield, Virginia; Jason Michael Joyce of the home; two grandchildren, Jamie Lynn Joyce (John) of Wakefield, Virginia and James William Joyce (Noel) of Wakefield, Virginia; three great grandchildren, John Curtis Read IV, Jeanette Skylaerann Khaleyreighlynn Read, and James Presley Joyce; brother, Charles (Charlie) Henry Goodrich of Panama City, Florida. Her loving daughter by choice, Mary Kennedy; dear friends, Joe and Kitty Hancock; Bill and Linda Ballance, and Peggy Johnson - brought together and forever bonded by life’s worst moment of losing a child. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive. She was born May 9, 1948, in Surry County, Virginia and was a 1966 graduate of Waverly High School. Linda was a loving mother and homemaker. After her sons were grown, she re-entered the work force as a Customer Service Representative for S. Wallace Edward’s and Son in Surry, Virginia, where she worked until 2010, when her health dictated she retire. She was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband of 57 years, James Joyce. Her son, Kevin Ray Joyce; her parents, Henry (Ozzie) Osborne Goodrich and Alice Emory Goodrich; two sisters, Barbara Goodrich Britt and Jeannie Goodrich Newbold. Linda was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Waverly, Virginia. She was a member of the Burton’s Grove Ladies Aid Society where she held the position of secretary. She was an integral part of the Benjamin Scarborough Family Reunion where she served as the secretary for many years. Linda was an amazing cook who made the best potato salad ever! She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, game shows and was phenomenal with the answers on Jeopardy. She had a great love of gospel music and enjoyed playing the piano and attending gospel concerts with her husband James and son Jason. She was a true “lady of character” from the pearls on her ears to the tips of her beautifully polished nails. She was the epitome of character and grace. A visitation will be held at Rocky Hock Methodist Church, 2745 White Marsh Road, Wakefield, Virginia, on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church, with Pastor Raleigh Nunnally and Pastor Lee Woodcock officiating. Burial will follow at Rocky Hock Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers: Earl George, James William Joyce, John Read, Hanson Newbold, Wyatt Neblett, Henry Goodrich, David Barlow and Tommy Guess.
