Linda O' Leary of Trumansburg passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the age of 84.
Linda was born on July 8, 1941, in Plattsburgh, New York, a daughter of the late Otis and Leona (Tobin) Hazen. Linda's academic pursuits led her to graduate from Au Sable Forks High School, followed by obtaining her bachelor's degree from SUNY Plattsburgh.
In 1976, Linda began what would be a dedicated career at Trumansburg High School as a home economics teacher. Her influence extended far beyond the classroom, as she nurtured young minds and shaped future generations with her warmth and wisdom. She teamed up with the beloved Kathy Bond in the library for 29 cherished years at Charles O. Dickerson High School, where she retired from in 2013. As a class advisor, she created lasting memories that resonated with her students, weaving lessons of life with threads of kindness.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Linda's heart thrived in the companionship of her close friends at JKL Design. Among the most treasured memories are the countless hours spent crafting vibrant items for local craft shows and the joy derived from running shows straight from her garage.
Linda is survived by her children, Kelly (David) Blake, Karen (Brian) Barnes, and John O'Leary; grandchildren, Kimberly Makinster, Zachary Makinster, Marshall Blake, Jacob (Hannah) Barnes, Joshua Barnes, and Zak Horn; great-grandchildren, Jahnaya, Kyra, Julianna, and Elijah; sister, Peggy Kyea; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Harrington O'Leary; and her brother, Joseph Casey.
The family will be present to receive friends from Noon to 3:00pm on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 3:00pm, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks those that would like to make a donation in her memory to kindly consider the Trumansburg Food Pantry, PO Box 162, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
