Linda Scherer Obituary

Linda Duchovic Scherer, 70, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025, after facing cancer with unwavering faith and quiet strength. A lifelong learner, devoted mother, loving wife, and woman of deep faith, she lived with purpose, curiosity, and compassion. Her legacy endures in the many lives she touched, the traditions she fostered, and the family she bound together with grace and unconditional love.

Linda embodied her Catholic faith and her belief in the power of learning. She earned both a Masters in Public Health and a bachelor's from the University of Michigan and was a Wolverine for life. She pursued a career in healthcare until becoming a proud stay-at-home mom, and devoted herself to service within her parish and community.

Linda shared 47 years of marriage with her husband Ralph, creating a home filled with laughter and love. She was the cherished mother of Anne (Chris) Hiter, Katharine Scherer, and Julie Scherer, and the proud "Nana" of Charlotte and Wyatt Hiter, sewing for them, hiding fairies in the garden, writing poems, reading stories, and exploring nature together.

Born in Dearborn to parents Julius and Frances Duchovic, she is survived by her siblings Mark Duchovic, Denise (Rick) Wallace, Elaine Patterson, and Ron (Cathy) Duchovic, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

Linda's heart belonged with her family, her faith, and nature. Her home bloomed with the flowers she tended so lovingly, and she spent countless joyful hours at the Cincinnati Nature Center and the Cincinnati Zoo. Nearly every morning, she faithfully walked with dear friends at Julifs Park, usually with her dog at her side, a ritual that grounded her and brought her deep joy. She especially loved visiting national parks and traveling with Ralph, ultimately reaching all 50 states, a goal completed with a special trip to Idaho. Though she disliked water, she even braved cruises for the sake of shared adventure. She enjoyed art history, reading, sewing, theater, and piecing together jigsaw puzzles. Growing up in the glory days of the Detroit Tigers made her a devoted baseball fan for life.

Her compassion extended to animals and to anyone in need. Her labradoodle, Holly, was her enthusiastic walking companion, and her late dog Stella, whom Linda trained as a therapy dog, brought comfort to many hospital patients. Linda's spirit of service also guided her volunteer work with the Freestore Foodbank, Catholic schools, and her church. Her humility, generosity, and quiet kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Her family knew the end was near when she no longer asked for her morning egg, a simple detail that reflects how much joy she found in life's everyday comforts. Linda's absence leaves an ache that words cannot fully describe, yet her love lives on in the family she adored and the friendships she nurtured. Her presence will be felt in the small, quiet moments she cherished: a flower in bloom, a Sudoku puzzle waiting to be solved, the feel of a handwritten note, or the warmth of a faithful dog nearby. In keeping with Linda's kind and selfless nature, memorial gifts can be directed to Romero Academy or the Cultural Center of Batahola Norte.

Visitation will be held Thursday, December 4th from 4:00-6:00pm at T.P. White and Sons Funeral Home, 2050 Beechmont Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45230. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 5th at 10:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 7820 Beechmont Ave., Anderson Township, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

She will be held in our hearts forever.
