Linda Sibley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Cremation Society of Iowa - Des Moines on Nov. 25, 2023.
Linda Mae Sibley, 70, of Urbandale, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 after a battle with COVID-19.
Linda was born on May 24, 1953 to Elton Sibley and Mary "Jackie" (Hicks) Sibley of Des Moines and graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in 1971. After receiving a degree in education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1974, she devoted her skill, patience, and empathy to those most in need of them and pursued a career in remedial elementary education. Both inside and outside of her professional life she shared her warmth, love, and grace with all those around her, especially those who felt excluded.
She enjoyed cross-stitch, sudoku, rummikub, talking for hours to people she just met, playing with her ornery but lovable cats, and most of all, taking care of her family. She was most at home on the beach, watching the waves roll in and out, but always insisted that her favorite place in the world was wherever her kids happened to be.
Linda was preceded in death by her father, Elton Sibley, and her first husband, Jarrett Day. She is survived by her mother Mary "Jackie" Silvers, her brother Charles "Mike" Sibley and his family, her second husband, Daniel Raymond Young, and her five sons: Brandon Day, 39, of Clive, David Sibley, 33, of Des Moines, John Sibley, 30, of Urbandale, Joseph Sibley, 19 of Urbandale, and Mark Sibley, 19, of Urbandale. In addition to her family, her legacy is carried on by the hundreds of children she taught how to read during her 33 years as a teacher in the Des Moines public schools. She was loved and is missed more than she could have known.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
