Linda Carole (Reed) Slattenow, 84, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, of Waterloo, passed away October 30, 2025, at Pinnacle Specialty Care, Cedar Falls. She was born April 1, 1941, in Oelwein, the daughter of Lloyd Condit and Evelyn Janet (Jorgenson) Reed. She graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1959 and later attended Iowa State Teachers College for two years.

Lin was united in marriage to Percy D. Slattenow on August 17, 1962, at the Central Christian Church, Waterloo. Her strong Christian faith was kindled at an early age at the First Christian Church, Oelwein. She was baptized at Central Christian Church, Waterloo and later became a confirmed member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo. Through the years, she sang in choirs, directed children's choir, played in the handbell choir, and served on many committees and was involved in Care and Concern.

Lin enjoyed music, especially live music and attending concerts and performances of her favorite styles, such as, symphony, chorales, big band, jazz, Nordic folk and barbershop. She was a novice at the piano, but was a good closet harmonica player. She enjoyed her western movies, especially Randolph Scott, Alan Ladd and John Wayne. Lin also enjoyed biking, reading, bird watching, her family pets (Dusty, Jubil, Pumpkin, Holly, Ginger, Amber and Tigger) traveling, long walks, and dances at Electric Park. Most importantly, spending time attending Skipps sporting events and performances as he grew up, as well as those of grandsons, Trent and A.J., and spending time with family.

Lin's work life took her to Woolworth, the Music Corner, Cowan and Cowan Wholesale Lumber, Dain Kalman and Quail and finally three decades at Exceptional Persons Inc. where she retired as secretary and purchasing agent in 2006. She published the Sons of Norway newsletter for many years and for thirty years served as secretary for the Waterloo Cemetery Association.

She was a past president of Permanent Planning Inc. Over the years, she also delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered with the Waterloo Food Bank, did poll watching, and served as poll chair for years.

Lin is survived by her husband, Percy of Cedar Falls; son, Skipp (Sarah) Slattenow of Bondurant; two grandsons, Trent and A.J. Slattenow; her sister, Marlene (Roy) Stafford of Vernon, Texas; brother-in-law, Monte Slattenow of Live Oak, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
