On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, Linda Carol Straut of Matamoras, Pa. entered into eternal peace with her adoring family by her side. Linda was born on October 12, 1950 to Franklin T. Paul and Mary Lyver Paul in Tuxedo, NY. She was a long-time resident of Salisbury Mills, and later Slate Hill, NY.
Linda attended Monroe Woodbury HS, where she met Rick and went on their first date ice skating. From the moment they met, they were inseparable and were married on October 10, 1970. Side by side they did it all together. Any weekend they could be spotted at car shows from the Hudson Valley to Lake George and beyond. As the years sped along, the car shows were replaced with little league, youth football and most recently travel / club hockey. Yes, Linda lived for her grandkids.
When she was not spending time with her family she was advocating for our seniors. For over twenty years, she was an administrator for the Orange County Office for the Aging. She was always willing to advise and fight for the rights of our senior citizens. Even after retirement, she was quick to help anyone who needed help navigating the complicated system.
To help unwind Linda was an avid "scrapper'. For over twenty years, she was part of a monthly scrapbook group with her daughters and countless friends. People loved her hand-made greeting cards and endless scrapbook pages with pictures of her beloved family. The only thing her family enjoyed more than her scrapbooking was her baked goods. She was never hesitant to share her cheesecakes, cookies or pies. Her birthday cakes were legendary!!
Linda is survived by her loving husband, Richard Straut, at home; her two loving daughters, Laurie Straut Laudati, who resides in Walden with her husband Anthony and their four children: Paul, Joseph, Daniel and Victoria, as well as Tracey Straut England of Vernon, NJ and husband Eric, along with their three sons: Jeremy, Brandon and Devin. She was also the big sister to her brothers, Brian and Frank Paul.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Avenue, Monroe, NY, with a funeral service beginning at 7:45 P.M. Interment will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Cemetery of the Highlands, Route 32, Highland Mills, NY.
