Linda Ruth Sweeney, 70, A longtime resident of Charlevoix went to be with her Lord on Wednesday September 6, 2023, in Traverse City after a long illness. Linda was born in Battle Creek, MI, January 12, 1953, to Erwin Smalley and Barbara Ledyard. She married Peter Sweeney on March 16, 1974, in Colorado and after having her oldest son, Jasper, moved her family back to Michigan to spend her life with her family in Charlevoix.
Linda graduated from Charlevoix High School and spent most of her career working as a waitress at various restaurants in the area. She was well known in the community and spent the last 10 years of her career working at Boulder Park as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Linda was well known for her smile that could brighten a room and was always welcoming and happy to see you. In her later years Linda enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her nine grandchildren. She was at her happiest while having a picnic with her family, a day at the beach, taking a swim or playing in the sunshine. Linda was also an avid reader and loved movies and music. In her later years, with declining health, books were a great escape and she read hundreds and was always asking for something new to read.
Linda is survived by her mother Patricia Smalley, sister Darlene (Smalley) and John Harris, brother Jeffrey Popenhagen and Renee (King), Son Jasper Sweeney and Stacey (Moseler), daughter Tawnya (Sweeney) and Evan Bennett; daughter Christine (Sweeney) and Eric Speer; grandchildren Maci Moseler, Aiden, Ava and Ella Sweeney, Alvin and Evie Bennett, Liam, Lily and Lana Speer. Along with many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father Erwin Smalley, mother Barbara Ledyard, brother Larry Smalley and sister Deborah Smalley.
Linda will be sorely missed by all who knew her but fondly remembered her with a smile on her face.
A memorial service will be held Saturday September 30th at Charlevoix Church of the Nazarene at 11:00 am with Reverend Cody Rhode officiating and a Picnic to follow at Ferry Beach Park in Charlevoix at 1:00 pm, weather permitting. Feel free to bring a dish to pass. All arrangements by Jowett Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Benzonia. In lieu of flowers any memorial contributions can be made to assist with final expenses to Stacey Moseler-Sweeney 3470 Sliverville Rd. Frankfort, MI 49635.
