Funeral services for Linda Tate, 74 of Serbin, Texas are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin with Rev. David Mumm officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Linda Faye (Kappler) Tate was born at home in Serbin, Texas on February 11, 1948, the daughter of Otto Paul Kappler and Alma Martha (Synatschk) Kappler. She was baptized on February 22, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin by Rev. Paul Eifert and confirmed on April 15, 1962 also at St. Paul Lutheran Church by Rev. Arthur Arndt. Her confirmation verse was 2 Corinthians 5:15, "And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again." Linda attended Giddings High School where she was voted Homecoming Queen her junior year and was the Class of 1966 Salutatorian. On June 30, 1973, Linda was united in marriage to James Hallam Tate at the Giddings State School Chapel by Rev. Willard Rother. They enjoyed traveling and went to Germany three times. She worked as a loan officer at Citizens State Bank in Giddings for 30 years. Following her retirement from the bank, Linda served as the church secretary at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin for over 10 years. Linda enjoyed cross-stitching and loved Elvis and visiting with her friends at the Bullpen. She was a loyal supporter of St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin and always loved a good benefit auction. She will be remembered for the love she had for her family.
Linda passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at her home in Serbin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto & Alma Kappler; her husband, James Tate; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Josie and CW Kasper and Ruth and Roy Lehmann; two sisters-in-law, Happy Kappler and Eola Nell Alspaw, and two brothers-in-law, Rudie Mitschke and Neal Namken.
Linda is survived by her two children, John Tate of Serbin and Liana and Luke Adair of Serbin; two grandchildren, Joshua Adair of Serbin and Sharron Adair of Serbin; one sister, Jeanette Mitschke of Winchester; one brother, Paul Kappler of Serbin; one sister-in-law, Miriam Namken of Weslaco; two brothers-in-law, Milton Tate Jr. & his wife, Twila of Brenham and Ivan Alspaw of Dallas, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Lonnie Lehmann, Paul Kappler, Phil Mitschke, Michael Mitschke, Keith Cohn, Tommy Mitschke, Butch Kasper, Doug Dunlap, Jacob Ray, Kevin Cole, and Roland Guettler.
Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund in Serbin or to the charity of one's choice.
