Linda Vigil Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rogers Mortuary - Las Vegas on Jan. 7, 2026.
Beloved: On January 2nd, 2026, our lives changed forever. Linda Mary Vigil, 73, a resident of Las Vegas was called home peacefully to Our Lord following a sudden illness at St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe surrounded by her loved ones and close family.

Linda was born August 28, 1952 in Springer, New Mexico to Sofia and Jose Salazar. She was raised in Ocate by her maternal grandmother, Eutimia S. Vigil until 14 when she returned to Las Vegas where she attended "The Castle" and Modern-day Robertson High School where she graduated in June 1971. Linda lived briefly in Pueblo Colorado. But ultimately returned to Las Vegas for many reasons. Linda was a very outspoken advocate for those less fortunate and vulnerable. She was always on the side of the underdog. She detested war and conflict and took part in movements for the advancement of Hispanic, Chicanos, Native Americans and those of mixed heritage inspired by her favorite movie, "Billy Jack".

Once Linda returned to Las Vegas, she attended New Mexico Highlands University and Luna Vocational Technical Institute where she attained her Nursing Degrees and also took classes that she enjoyed such as Art such as pastels, sketching, and painting. Her other interests included Sociology Anthropology. Linda's career entailed many years at New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute and Northeastern Regional Hospital where she took pride in being a leader and grief counselor and emergency room nurse.

In the span of her career as a Nurse at NERH, she met her husband and father of her children, Rogelio Romero. Together they raised their children to live a life of Love and Faith. Linda and Roger were active members in the Cursillo Movement. She enjoyed music and bringing her tambourine to participate. She took pride in instilling a faith in God to all her children and all whom she encountered.

Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Rogelio Romero, Her mother Sofia Salazar, Brothers: Jose Salazar, Uncle Eliseo Vigil, and Aunt: Mary and Florentino Pacheco. Special Grandmother: Eutimia Vigil. She is survived by her children: Felipe Baca of Las Vegas, Jeanette Ellano of Albuquerque, Kenneth Romero and Matthew Romero of Las Vegas, and Michael and Bernadette Romero of Santa Fe. Grandchildren: Miquiella Romero and Adrian Fernandez-Romero. Siblings: Leroy & Darlene Salazar of Las Vegas, Jesse Salazar of Albuquerque, Gloria & Estevan Lovato of Rio Rancho, and Julia Salazar of Las Vegas. Aunt: Elsie Romero of Cheyenne, Wyoming. Special Nieces: Joanne Pacheco and Susie Pacheco (James) and Kimberly Pacheco of Ocate. Godchildren: Gabriel and Gloria F Lovato of Rio Rancho. numerous nephews and nieces and cousins.

It was our mother's great wish that humanity learn patience, tolerance, and understanding for one another. As part of Linda's Native American ancestry, she believed the Earth is alive and we must do our part to care for our brothers and sisters. She believed Life is short. We must always tell our loved ones, "I love you" and forgive one another by reconciling all differences the way God intended.

Linda and her family wishes to convey their heartfelt appreciate to the staff at La Vida Buena, Christus St. Vincent Medical Center, Compassus for her care. May God repay your kindness.

As per Linda's request, there will be a Rosary Friday, January 9, 2026 at 4:00pm at Rogers Chapel. Private Interment at a later date.

Arrangements are entrusted to and under the care of Rogers Mortuary, 600 Reynolds Ave., Las Vegas, NM 87701, 505-425-3511 or 1-800-479-3511.
