Linda May Chester Webb went home to be with her Lord on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025. She
passed peacefully in Palatka, FL, at the age of 83. Linda was born in Lansing, Michigan, to her
loving parents, Ernest Chester and Donna Gates Chester.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Allen Chester, grandson
John R. Webb, and nephew Brian Chester. She is survived by her son John C. Webb Jr., sister
Anita Chester DeForest, granddaughter Jessica Webb, grandson Hunter Webb, nieces Tamie
Chester Chamy, Shelly DeForest Rewis, and Lisa DeForest Avirett, and a number of great
grandchildren, great nieces and nephews.
Linda knew from a very young age that her hearts' desire was to be a teacher. She graduated
from St. Johns High School in Michigan and went on to study at North Central College in
Naperville, Illinois, and then continued her education at Michigan State University in East
Lansing, Michigan, where she received her Bachelors, Masters, and Educational Specialist
degrees. She was a passionately devoted teacher whose purpose and joy were fulfilled in the
classroom and in watching her students succeed in life. She took a brief hiatus from teaching
and was the director of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Alpena, Michigan, for approximately five years
after which she returned to teaching. Linda primarily taught elementary school, but for three
years she was the teacher in a one room school house teaching kindergarten through eighth
grades and was the sole adult in the building. She touched many students' lives in Michigan,
Florida, and North Carolina. In addition to teaching, she enjoyed following the Michigan State
Spartans sports teams, traveling, playing golf and bowling, reading, doing Cryptogram puzzles,
jigsaw puzzles, and playing games.
Linda was a born-again Christian who loved her Lord and served him in a variety of ways. Her
life verse was Jeremiah 29:11. She donated her Christian books to the library at River Road
Baptist Church and was blessed by their Outreach team in a number of ways. Memorial
donations may be sent to River Road Baptist Church, 344 West River Road, Palatka, FL 32177.
Designate as memorial donation for Outreach.
In addition, the family was blessed by the care she was given in her last days at Haven Hospice
Roberts Care Center. Memorial donations may be made online at Haven Hospice.com/donate or
by mailing a check made out to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center and mailing it to them at
6400 St. Johns Avenue, Palatka, FL 32177.
Donations may also be sent to the Parkinsons Foundation through their web site,
www.parkinson.org.
A small graveside service with family and close friends will be held at a later date where she will
be laid to rest beside her parents and brother in Michigan.

I will always cherish Linda as a dear friend and co-worker. Linda was one of the first kind-hearted teachers who welcomed me to Gunnisonville Elementary in 1972. The students, staff, and parents loved her dearly. She will always be remembered with love and appreciation.
