Linda Wolfe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes - Knoxville on Mar. 5, 2026.
Linda Wolfe, age 77, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Galesburg on January 1, 1949, to Wesley Gregory and Charlotte (Moore) Gardner.

Linda is survived by her five children: James Wolfe (Sherry), Eric Wolfe (Merijo), Julianna Wolfe, Katie Polson (Rhett), Heidi Wolfe-White; her two nieces: Barbara Ball and Christina Lanks, whom she helped raise and considered her own; and a sister, Rita Briggs (Eddie). She is preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Mary Lucille (Craig) Moore; her parents; her sister, Janet Ball; and her brother, Kenny Lockwood.

Linda thoroughly enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and aunt. She had a passion for sewing, cooking, couponing, baking, and quilting, and she often shared her talents as a way of helping others and expressing her love. She quickly embraced those around her as family. She was very involved in the community, serving regularly as a room mother to all her children's classes at King Elementary School and was a long-time member of the Galesburg Covenant Church--serving as the head cook of the Annual Chili Supper camp fundraiser for many years.

Linda graduated from Costa High School in 1968 and worked as a telephone operator and store clerk. While raising her family, she ran a daycare center out of her home and sewed custom dresses for bridal parties. Linda became a Social Worker Aid at Bridgeway where she worked for many years before retiring in 2015. In her later years, she found purpose and community working at The Purple Hanger Resale Shoppe in Galesburg.

Cremation rights have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 14th at Galesburg Covenant Church (Dayton at Jefferson). A luncheon will be held directly after the service ends in the Fellowship Hall. Memorials can be made to Safe Harbor Family Crisis Center and Galesburg Covenant Church. On-line condolences or expressions of sympathy may be made through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhomes.com.

To the Wolfe family, Linda was my cousin that I have had many years of a good and loving relationship with. Her mother was my Dad's sister. Every time I visited Galesburg I spent a lot of time with Linda. She was the family historian. Sharp as ever in remembering everything. Growing up I have so many fond memories of family get togethers with so much delicious homemade food and treats. Linda was an excellent cook. Family was so important to Linda. Many may not know this but Linda was one of the first students at Carl Sandburg College when the classes were held at the Congregational church downtown Galesburg. When the campus moved to Lake Storey Linda would walk there. The best father figure in her life was "Chub" who Kenny her brother took his last name of Lockwood. Chub died tragically way too soon. Linda will be missed. I loved Linda. My brother Danny wrote to me : "Sorry to hear that Linda passed. I think that she was an attentive mother. She was good to me when I was a kid". Although I am unable to be there today for all of you my thoughts are with you all. Love, Tracey Moore Baker
