St. Agatha & Fort Kent--- Lionel "Piton" Bernier, 80, peacefully passed into Eternal Life on November 4, 2025. He was born February 12, 1945, in Fort Kent, a son of the late Leon and Florine (Michaud) Bernier.

Piton last worked with Fraser Paper for almost 35 years in various roles, until his retirement in 2007. Previously Lionel worked with several area farmers during planting and harvest. He was a former member of the Maine Army National Guard and was a longtime member of the American Legion, Fort Kent. Lionel loved the outdoors and enjoyed riding his four-wheeler. He also enjoyed keeping up with his vegetable garden, which always kept his wife busy canning in the kitchen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Pierrette (Pelletier) Bernier of St. Agatha; four children, Wayne Bernier of Allagash, Paula Michaud and her husband Gilles of St. Francois, Canada, Bruce Bernier and his wife Holly of Allagash, and Jason Bernier of No. Carolina; a stepdaughter, Vicky Dubois and her husband Clark of St. Agatha; seven grandchildren; many great grandchildren; six siblings, Kate Voisine of Fort Kent, Verla Ouellette of Madawaska, Terry Bard of Connecticut, Allen Bernier of Fort Kent, Galen Bernier of Connecticut, and Alton Bernier of Fort Kent; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Piton was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Bernier, and siblings, Lorraine Voisine, Pauline Deprey, Clinton, Don, and Harold Bernier.

A graveside service will be celebrated at 1 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at St. Louis Cemetery, Fort Kent. Arrangements are a service of Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home, 14 E. Main St., Fort Kent.
