Ellsworth
It is with a great deal of sadness that the family of Lloyd Frederick Beal announces his passing at home on October 2, 2024, after a long and difficult battle with dementia. Lloyd was born on April 10, 1954, the son of Norma (Smith) and Sheldon "Ted" Beal of Ellsworth where he lived, worked and raised his family.
He was a 1972 graduate of Ellsworth High School. During his high school years Lloyd played in a 4-member band called the Harbor Lights and quiet Lloyd of all things played the drums! People who knew him would remember him keeping shop in the family business Beal's Jewelry Store in downtown Ellsworth where he worked for 46 years before the onset of the dementia. As a young family Lloyd, Karen, Ben and Kate enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, and later Lloyd and Karen became avid vegetable gardeners proudly delivering veggies to neighbors and anyone else that would take the zucchini.
Summers as a boy were spent at camp on Patten Pond with a riot of camp friends' and lots of mischief to get into with friends the Foster's, Abram's, Poulin's, Wixon's and many others. Summers were the best! A very big part of home life for them were their beloved dogs, always the dogs primarily St. Bernards. Blue in particular would climb into Lloyd's lap in the evening in his recliner, all 170 lbs. of him. When not on Main Street, he was happiest on his tractor hauling wood or mowing the fields on the land that he loved so much.
Lloyd was proud to serve on the Senator Hale Hose Company for numerous years, many merchant committees and on the City of Ellsworth Board of Appeals. Lloyd was a quiet and contented man, a true gentleman, who will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen Beal; son, Benjamin and wife Jennifer along with three cherished children, Sophia Kate, Joseph Lloyd and Charlotte Grace; also, by his dear daughter, Kate and her partner, Adam Nickerson all of Ellsworth; plus, cousins, Thelma "Mabel" Beal of Ellsworth, Richard Beal of Cranberry Isle and Rick Smith and a favorite nephew Gregory Beal both of Florida.
Private graveside services will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-6pm on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St. Ellsworth.
Those who desire may make contributions in Lloyd's memory to the Senator Hale Hose Company, 1 City Hall Plaza, Ellsworth, 04605.
