Lloyd Keith Douglas, 94, of Independence, Missouri, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on January 8, 1932, in Kansas City, Missouri, Lloyd was the second oldest of three children to William Orville Douglas and Emma Francis Storms. From an early age, he learned the value of hard work and responsibility, holding jobs such as a paper route and working at a soda fountain during his youth.

At just 17 years old, Lloyd answered the call to serve his country, joining the United States Army and National Guard. During his service in the Korean War era, he was stationed in locations including Virginia, Georgia, and Germany, where he served with dedication and pride. His time in the military helped shape the discipline, resilience, and quiet strength that would define the rest of his life.

On April 9, 1957, Lloyd married the love of his life, Barbara Jane Douglas, in Kansas City, Missouri. They shared 65 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2023. Their marriage was one of deep respect and affection, and Lloyd often spoke of Barbara with admiration for her kindness, humor, and the joy she brought into his life.

Following his military service, Lloyd worked various jobs, including delivering milk as a milkman and delivering Coca-Cola, eventually leading him to a long and steady career delivering groceries for Associated Grocers, where he dedicated 28 years before retiring. Known for his reliability and strong work ethic, he took pride in his work and the relationships he built along the way.

Lloyd was a lifelong member of Veterans of Foreign War and a generous supporter of charitable organizations, including Special Olympics, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Wounded Warriors Project, and the American Cancer Society. Giving back to others was not just something he did, it was part of who he was.

He found joy in life's simple routines: cooking, yard work, keeping busy around the house, and even grocery shopping, which he approached with his own careful system and attention to detail. He believed in doing things the right way, with patience and consistency.

Above all, Lloyd loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who led by example always offering guidance, support, and a steady presence. He raised his family with a balance of structure and encouragement, allowing them to grow while always being there when they needed him.

Lloyd is survived by his son, Bryan Keith Douglas (Susan Douglas); his grandchildren, Jeremy Douglas and Jennifer Simmons (Calvin Simmons); and his cherished great-grandchildren, Elijah, Jonah, Eva, Maliah, and Aurora.

He is reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Barbara.

He will be remembered for his cheerful personality, his generosity, and his unmistakable presence, often marked by his Santa Claus-like beard and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone. Whether with a kind word, a helping hand, or a simple smile, Lloyd had a way of brightening the lives of those around him.

His legacy is one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and a life well lived in service to others, and a love for his family that endures beyond a lifetime.

Funeral services will be held on March 24, 2026, at Royer Funeral Home in Independence, Missouri. Family and friends are invited to visit beginning at 2:00 p.m., with a graveside service, including military honors, to follow at 2:30 p.m.
