Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paitsel Funeral Home on Jun. 3, 2025.
Lloyd Jackson "Sonny" Huffman Jr., born February 15th, 1954, went home on May 31st, 2025. He was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd "Bode" and Jean Huffman, a granddaughter, Charlotte Mae Huffman, father-in-law Leo Price, sister-in-law Carolyn Price, and his beloved Aunt Kitty, Uncle Bouleware, and Uncle Pick.
Left to hold the memory of all he was and to sift through his books, albums, baseball cards, and ticket stubs are his wife of 48 years, Debra Price Huffman; his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and David Breeden; son and daughter-in-law, Cole and Whitney Huffman; Grandchildren Jackson "Jack" and Zoe Breeden, Bode and Drew Huffman; brother and sister-in-law Frank and Susan Huffman; brother and sisters-in-law Wes Price, Clayton and Laurene Abbott, Chris and Paula Holtman; nieces and nephews Harrison, Landon, and Josie Huffman, and Brandon and Mary Montgomery; aunts and uncle Carolyn Bishop, and Roberta and Dick Davis; and the cousins whose mention always made him smile: Julie, Lee, Adam, Angela, Ken, Christy, and Kathy.
Beyond his family, Sonny also had a deep love for his Little League Boys, his Youth Group Kids, and the children that found their way to Santa's lap and listening ear in front of the Big Red Barn on Craig's Creek every December for many, many years. He cherished the friendships he made at Mohawk/ Yokohama Tire Corporation, where he began working in 1978, retiring in 2015. Tire building was what he did to take care of his family, but outside of those long nights, he was a storyteller, a music man, a coach, a mentor and youth leader, an auctioneer, a favored Uber driver of Hokie Nation, a concert promoter, and the real Santa Claus.
Sonny's favorite place to be was in a good seat at a good concert, preferably out of town, with his Deb. Dad's favorite place to be was Black Friday shopping, or on the couch listening to a new album and reading a book he'd share with Jess, or in a ball park or having swimming pool chats with Cole. Pop's favorite places to be were Happy's Flea Market on a Saturday with Jack, a diner or the Green Valley Book Fair with Zoe, Barnes & Noble and Chip & Jo's with Bode, and the Book Fair or the carpool line with Drew. And because of the promise of Heaven and the Savior he knew, we now imagine his favorite place might be doing a little two-step across the floors of Heaven with a baby girl named Charlotte Mae while John Prine plays a tune.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at the Paitsel Funeral Home Chapel with J.D. Booth officiating. Interment will follow at the Huffman Family Cemetery.
Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the hour of the service.
