Lloyd Kirk Obituary

Lloyd L. Kirk

October 3, 1937 - September 24, 2025

Lloyd L. Kirk, of Elkhorn, Wisconsin died on September 24, 2025 at Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center in Milwaukee. Lloyd was born on October 3, 1937 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He attended public schools in Paris and Kenosha Wisconsin, graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1955. Lloyd served for three years on a destroyer in the United States Navy. Lloyd then attended The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point majoring in Dendrology and Biology, graduating in 1962. Lloyd worked at Abbott Laboratories where he helped create life-saving drugs and the safety of drugs currently being used. He lived, part of his life in the farmhouse of his grandparents, where he cared for his horse Hercules, and built a large and complex doll house for the family. He retired in 1994 to care for his mother in her Kenosha home until her death in 1999.

In 2003, Lloyd purchased a home in Elkhorn, Wisconsin surrounded on two sides by farms, the care of which, he was very knowledgeable. At this home, Lloyd had built a large workhouse to use his many skills with wood and other projects. He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church in Kenosha where Lloyd was generous with his resources, his time, and where he put his knowledge of trees to use. There, he oversaw the removal of a very, large and very, old tree and the planting of a new one. Lloyd was also a member of numerous church committees and boards. Lloyd purchased land in southwestern Wisconsin, where he planted and cared for over 1000 black walnut trees. His love of travel took him places in the United States and around the world including Australia and New Zealand. We cannot celebrate Lloyd's life without mentioning his passion and exhaustive work exploring the genealogy of both sides of his family back to several generations. Some of that work Lloyd passed on to his family in written form.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Orilla Kirk; and his brother, Rev. Chester Kirk. He is survived by his sister, Elaine Halvorson of Loudon New Hampshire, her husband, Huntley Halvorson; his sister-in law, Edith Kirk of Kensington, Maryland; nephews: Eric Halvorson of Frisco, Texas, Scott Halvorson of Richmond, Virginia, Colin Kirk of Potomac, Maryland; and his niece, Heidi Halvorson of Hooksett, New Hampshire; two great-nephews, two great-nieces, and one great-great-nephew. He is also survived by his significant other, of 23 years, Bonnie Devine of Kenosha with whom Lloyd shared many adventures including attending Kenosha Symphony and other music festivals, spending time at the family cabin in northern Wisconsin, and attending Packer parties on Sunday afternoons.

The celebration of Lloyd's life will be on Saturday October 4th, 10:00 AM at The First United Methodist Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin. There will be visiting hours that morning from 9:00-10:00 AM before the service, and a luncheon following the service in the church. This will be followed by the committal at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park at 12:30 PM with full military honors. Memorials would be appreciated to the First United Methodist Church.
