Kalona-Lloyd S. Mast was born January 22, 1936, in Kalona, IA, son of Sam D. and Katie (Gingerich) Mast. Lloyd accepted Christ as his Savior in his youth and was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church to which he remained a faithful member until his death. He lost his eyesight following the surgery of a benign brain tumor in September, 2014. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 88 years, 1 month, 22 days. Lloyd was united in marriage to Vesta Ann Yoder on September 25, 1958. To this union was born 7 sons, 3 daughters, Surviving are children: James (Delores) LeRoy, MI, John Almon (Elmina) Roseville, IL, Marlin (Miriam) of Brighton, IA, Herbert (Myrna) Reedsville, WI, Lavern (Velma) Kalona, IA, Keith Monroe, WI, Emmaletta (Edward Ropp) Esther Lou (Marlin) Ropp, Eileen (Mahlon) Ropp all of Kalona, IA, and Vernon (Anna Marie) of Monroe, WI. 61 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren, 3 brothers: Alvin (Dorothy), Fred (Mary Pearl) and Mahlon (Ruth Anna), 7 sisters Lizzie Yoder, Dorothy Mast, Magdalena (David) Bender, Clara (Elmer T.) Miller, Freda (Monroe C.) Miller, Esther Mast, and Edna (Henry T.) Miller.
Preceding Lloyd in death are his parents, wife Vesta, 3 grandchildren: Paul Wendall Mast, Elnora Fern Mast, and Jewel Ropp (stillborn), a great - grandson Kenneth Earl Troyer, siblings Eldora Yoder, Verna and Alta Mast, 2 brothers-in-law, Chriss Yoder and Melvin Yoder.
During his years of blindness he connected with many lives and appreciated the many people that came to visit and was well known for his stories. He freely expressed his thanks to his children and caretakers for caring for him in his blindness. As a family we want to thank everyone for all their visits and letters, especially since Mommy’s passing and the many other expressions and deeds of kindness.
A Funeral Service will be 9:30 am Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Edward Ropp Residence 2415 110th St. Kalona, Iowa, visitation days and hours are to follow Sunday starting at 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm then Monday starting at 10:00 am and going all afternoon.
