Lloyd “Buck” McKay, Age 91, of Farmville, VA, passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025. He was born on November 17, 1934, in Prince Edward County, VA, the son of Stanley Baxter McKay and Sue Allen McKay, growing up in Worsham on Springfield Farm.
Buck is survived by his wife of 62 years, Myrna Jordan McKay, two sons, Lloyd Brian McKay (Mary), and Bradley Call McKay, three grandchildren, Matthew Baxter McKay, Robert Call McKay (Chelsie), Jessica Leigh McKay, and three great-grandchildren, Clay-John McKay, Beau Call McKay, and Sadie Jane Davis. Buck was the brother of Dallas McKay Tribble, and the youngest of nine brothers and sisters in the family: Annie Mae, Lelia, Raynard, Lonnie, Ernest, Otis, Virginia, Edith, and Ruth. His many nieces and nephews had a special place in his heart.
After his service in the United States Navy, Buck and Myrna were married in Farmville where they made their home. He worked in the Central Office for Virginia Telephone and Telegraph Company, later known as Centel and then Sprint at the time of his retirement. He then worked as a subcontractor for Sprint for several years. Buck served the Farmville community as a lifelong member of the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in organizing the Farmville Junior Fire Department. He served on the Town of Farmville Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. He regularly volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels in the Farmville area. Buck was a lifelong member of the Farmville Presbyterian Church and served on the Board of Deacons. Buck’s love for the outdoors included hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren, and spending afternoons on his lawnmower and tractor. You could also find him in his shop working on many projects for family and friends while listening to classic country music.
He maintained close relationships with all his family members and cherished the memories of times together at Springfield Farm. He will be remembered for his smile and willingness to lend a helping hand.
Visitation will be at Puckett Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, from 5-7 PM. Funeral service will be held at Farmville Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 11AM, followed by interment at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice, VA. Reception to be held at Farmville Presbyterian Church following the interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Farmville Fire Department or Madeline’s House, Farmville.
