Lloyd Schmidt passed away on December 13, 2025, at the age of 84. Born September 1941 to Ervin and Dorothy (Fritz) Schmidt in Des Moines, Iowa, he was the eldest of 9 children. Lloyd survived thoracic polio and conquered his paralysis by the time he graduated from St. Cloud Cathedral High School in 1959. He joined the army for three years, including serving in Korea. After his tour, he attended Brown (Dunwoody) Institute earning a degree in electronics. Lloyd then worked for Control Data briefly before spending the rest of his career at the phone company in various roles until his retirement in 1993. He had known his wife, Connie (Sowada) most of his life as she was a friend of one of his sisters, but they didn’t really get to know each other until his return from Korea. They started dating in 1965 and were married in 1966. The couple was married for 56 years until Connie passed away in 2023. Together, they raised three children: Brian, Jeff and Jennifer. Connie was the one he was living for, and now they are together again, along with their parents.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Connie. He is survived by his children; five grandchildren, Rachel, Lauren, Calvin, Emmery and Carl; his siblings, Kate (Pettit), Larry, Ruth (Hary), Fred, Donna (Langerak), Jon, Rick and Cyndi; and countless uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Osakis Minnesota next to his wife and near his parents. The Funeral Mass will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on February 7, 2026, at 11 AM with visitation for the public starting at 10 AM. Burial will immediately follow the service.
