Lloyd Shirley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rannells Funeral Home - Koontz Lake Chapel on Mar. 7, 2026.
Lloyd E. Shirley, a private man who found his greatest joy in the quiet rhythms of country life, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Hickory Creek Healthcare in Winamac following an illness. He was 87 years old.

Lloyd was born on December 2, 1938, in Decatur, Alabama, to the late Jewell F. Shirley and Maud E. "Estelle" (Williams) Payne. Over the years, he made his home in the Knox area, where he lived a life defined by hard work, independence, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.

He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. After his service, Lloyd worked as a machinist at McGill Manufacturing in Valparaiso, where he spent many years before retiring. Though he worked diligently in his trade, Lloyd's greatest passion was his farm. Tending the land brought him immense satisfaction, and he spent his entire adult life caring for it. Whether working the fields, enjoying the quiet beauty of nature, or casting a line while fishing, Lloyd found peace in the simple things.

He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Pearl A. (Willis) Shirley, who preceded him in death. Their life together was one built on devotion and companionship.

Lloyd is survived by his nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Pearl; one sister, Betty Byrd; and one brother, William Payne.

In keeping with Lloyd's wishes, there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon CDT on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Crown Hill Cemetery in Knox.

Lloyd will be remembered as a quiet, hardworking man who valued his independence, his land, and the simple beauty of the natural world.
