Lloyd Young

GREENFIELD – Lloyd Elbert Young, age 85, of Greenfield, passed away Friday, September 15, 2023 at Morristown Manor. He was born in Shelbyville on March 6, 1938 to Elbert Davis Young and Freda Udell (Harmon) Young. He graduated from Charlottesville High School in 1956. From 1954 until 1961, he proudly served in the United States Army. On August 19, 1957, Lloyd married Patricia Ann (Carroll) in Scottsburg, Indiana.
He spent many years working in the car sales business at Ralph Hockett Auto Sales and Dellen Automotive. Lloyd was a member of many groups including the American Legion Post 102, VFW, Masonic Lodge 101, FOP, Murat Shriners, Hancock County Shrine Club, Scottish Rite and Greenfield Conversation Club. He was also a member at Greenfield Faith United Methodist Church. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was a loving father and grandfather and deeply cherished his grandkids and great grandkids.
Lloyd is survived by his loving family, including his wife of 66 years, Patricia Young; daughters, Joyce Riley (Randy) and Vicki Swinney (Robert); grandchildren, Kathryn Bock (Tom), Jason Riley (Andrea), Cody Riley (Katie), Dezireé Swinney (Rob Jacobs), Maddison Edwards (Zach), Tucker Swinney (Alyssa); great-grandchildren, Tyler, Skyler, Ava, Cameron, Ryder and October; and sister, Linda Griffith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Freda; brother, Dale Young; sister, Delorus Hollenbeck; and granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Gant.
Visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:40 p.m. A Masonic Service will begin at 12:40 p.m. followed by the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield. The family invites you to join them in celebrating Lloyd's life at a gathering at the Greenfield Conservation Club following the burial.
