ROCKVILLE – Lloyd H. Zuber, 77, of
Rockville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. He was a retired educator from the Department of Defense School System.
He was born September 19, 1948, in Olney, Illinois, to the late James Nicholas Zuber and Viola Anne Renier Zuber.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sally Livengood Zuber, whom he married on July 28, 1984; one son, Stephen (Sarah) Zuber of Clarkston, Georgia; one daughter, Angela (Matthew) Coleman of Ridge Farm, Illinois; one brother, Lawrence (Jane) Zuber of Bryan, Texas; his former wife, Barbara Bevis of Georgia; five grandchildren, Ali Marie Keeton, Michael Longbine, Anna Belle Zuber, Simeon Zuber, and Grace Zuber; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Joseph (Diane) Zuber of Granger, Indiana, and Gregory Zuber of Bourbonnais, Illinois.
Lloyd was a member of the Rockville First United Methodist Church. He attended St. Joseph School and East Richland High School in Olney. He also attended Olney Central College and earned his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University.
He proudly served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam as an interpreter from August 24, 1970, until July 27, 1972. His commendations include the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharpshooter Medal. Following his military service, Lloyd taught middle and high school Math and Science at Rankin, Illinois, and later in Europe at AFCENT in the Netherlands. He served as a prom and yearbook sponsor, altar boy, sang in community choirs and in the Cathedral in Aachen, Germany, and sponsored math competitions. He also coached chess, and took many students on educational trips, including to Wales and Switzerland. He lived 23 years in Europe and cherished the friendships and former students he stayed in touch with through the years.
Lloyd loved teaching math and inspiring his students. In his youth he enjoyed family camping trips. He loved the "white squirrels" of Olney and was known for telling classic dad jokes. He enjoyed playing with his canine companions, Boomer and Scooter.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 1,2025, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard Street, Rockville, with Pastor Jon Overbey officiating. Burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
