On August 28, 1929, history details that the most significant event occurring in Washington County, Texas on that day likely would be described as a normal day to include farming, ranching and community activities. However, something special was happening on that day and today, we reflect and feel blessed that to the union of Carene Flanagan and Cornelius Wiliams, Loetha Mae was born, joining her sister, Bernice.
By 1958, records show Loetha was married to Eddie Breedlove. Shortly thereafter, she attended Brown College and then Franklin Beauty School in Houston and was soon managing her own beauty shop business. She operated her business until she decided to retire early in 2000.
Growing up with family and friends close by, Loetha became well-known in the community. She united with Mercy Seat Baptist Church and along with her mother, faithfully sang in the choir and attended Sunday School. She later became the Sunday School secretary, dutifully recording minutes each Sunday. This she did until after the death of her husband, Eddie Breedlove, after which she relocated to Houston, living with her nephew, Connie and his wife, Pearl. She continued to attend Mercy Seat Church when possible and was recognized as president of the choir until her passing.
Loetha had many special friends and close family members. In addition to nephew, Connie (Pearl), she leaves a host of loving great nieces, nephews and cousins, among which are Florine Gay and Octavia (Joe) Reed. Special friends include Addie Baker and Sheila Ross Henderson.
