Logan Francis De La Cruz, a beacon of hope and an embodiment of resilience, passed away on June 14, 2025, in Clifton, Virginia, after a brave battle with an undiagnosed progressive neurodegenerative brain and spine disorder. Born on May 21, 2003, in
Fairfax, Virginia, Logan's journey was one of courage, determination, and boundless joy that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
A student at Northern Virginia Community College, Logan was pursuing a degree in Biology with the dream of transferring to a four-year university to study Marine Biology, His fascination with the ocean and its creatures, especially sharks, was more than a passion - it was his calling.
As a decorated swim medalist at the VA State Special Olympics, Logan showcased not just his athletic prowess, but also an unwavering spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. He swam with the might of the ocean's currents, and his performances were a testament to his dedication and the sheer joy he found in the water.
Logan's relationship with God was deeply personal and reflective, and it guided him through the challenges he faced with grace and humility. He lived his faith through action, always ready to lend a hand or offer a word of encouragement. At just 8 years old, Logan took the stage to speak at Walk for Autism, Virginia, becoming a voice of hope for many families. Diagnosed with autism at a young age, Logan overcame obstacles with courage and grace, graduating from Centerville High School with straight As. His accomplishments reflected his resilience and the unwavering support of his family.
But Logan's interests did not stop at the water's edge. He was a nature enthusiast who loved fishing, finding solace in the gentle flow of rivers and the quiet patience that the sport requires. Logan had a big imagination and energized creativity. He excelled in English class, but what really excited him were the stories he made up on his own time, often acting them out simultaneously with his mind building them. His artistic talents shone brightly, too, as he sketched and created digital art inspired by marine life. Through his art, Logan communicated the beauty he saw in the world, reminding us all to appreciate the wonders around us.
His compassion extended to all living beings, as evidenced by his commitment to fostering dogs for A Forever Home Rescue. Each dog that Logan welcomed into his life was met with an abundance of love and care, and he championed the cause of giving these animals a second chance at happiness. Logan also possessed a witty sense of humor that could light up a room. Whether through a perfectly timed joke, a clever remark or his playful charm, Logan brought levity and joy to every space he entered.
Logan's legacy is one of extraordinary impact. He was a son, a brother, a friend, and a champion, leaving behind a family that cherished him: his father, Carl; his mother, Kolette; and his younger sister, Grace. They, along with his friends and community, will remember Logan for the light he brought into this world-a light that continues to shine in the memories he leaves behind.
As we reflect on Logan's life, let us be inspired by his unwavering optimism and his ability to find joy in every moment. His life was a vivid reminder that each day is a gift to be embraced with open arms and a full heart. Logan Francis De La Cruz, your spirit will forever swim in the endless sea of love you created, and your story will continue to motivate and uplift all who hear it. Rest in peace, dear Logan, and thank you for the immeasurable joy you brought into our lives.
