Lois E. Flannery, 89, of Reading, PA, passed away peacefully in her home comforted by the love of her adoring family on September 22, 2025.

Born at home on Gordon Street in Reading, Lois was the daughter of the late Charles P. Eberhart and the late Margaret M. Gilmore. Lois married her beloved husband, Richard, on Christmas Eve in 1954. Together they raised a wonderful family and shared 66 years of marriage before his passing.

Lois attended Charles Foos Elementary School and Northwest Junior High. She graduated from Reading High School in 1953 where she excelled in English and poetry writing. She enjoyed being a part of the RHS and NWJH alumni organizations.

In addition to raising a family, Lois was a medical secretary. In their spare time, she and her husband, Richard, enjoyed playing and watching tennis, attending countless sporting events, watching classic movies on TCM, antiquing, keeping an eye out for Roseville Pottery, and hosting friends in their home. Jeopardy! was played nightly in the Flannery household, where the competition was fierce. Lois cherished the memories of family vacations each summer in Ocean City, NJ., and particularly looked forward to the annual Spring and Fall Festival weekends. She also loved caring for her adorable cats.

While she enjoyed living in Reading early in life and then again in her later years, Lois was very fond of the fifteen years she and her family lived on Shaner Street in Boyertown, PA. An active member of the Women's Club of Boyertown, she also enjoyed her work as a secretary at the YMCA and working with the children at Pine Forge Elementary. Lois often spoke with a sense of endearing nostalgia about those years, when her children were young and the neighborhood was filled with friends, fun, and laughter.

While she was deeply proud of the many accomplishments of her sons and daughters, Lois's eyes would gleam with an extra sparkle whenever she spoke about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Without a doubt, her favorite role in life was being "Grammy."

As a devout Catholic and a woman of deep faith, Lois endured difficult periods in her life, especially the untimely death of her dear son, Martin, in 1995. Family and friends have always described Lois as kind, enthusiastic, loyal, feisty, and above all else – loving. She was protective of her family, and they loved her for that.

Lois is survived by her children: Colleen; Mark, spouse of Jeffrey Lentz; Matthew, spouse of Amy Flannery; and Melissa, spouse of Eric Moyer. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Brad Binder; Olivia Moyer, partner of Kylee Halladay; Ethan Moyer, as well as her two great-grandchildren: Colin and Ava Binder. In addition, Lois is survived by her sisters: Patsy, widow of Donald Kramer; and Linda, wife of Carl Horner.

Lois was predeceased by her husband, Richard; her son, Martin; as well as her two brothers, Charles "Bud" Eberhart and Charles "Rusty" Gilmore; and her sister, Vivian Priest. Lois also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.

Honoring Lois's request, no service or visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Humane Pennsylvania to celebrate Lois's love of animals – humanepa.org
