Lois Elaine Dreher Hough, affectionately known as Lois, who passed away on November 16, 2025, at the age of 94 in Corning, New York. Born on October 20, 1931, in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, Lois's journey was marked by her unwavering courage and keen analytical mind, qualities that defined her both in her professional and personal life.
Lois proudly served her country as a US Navy WAVES veteran during the Korean Conflict, an experience that shaped much of her subsequent endeavors and affiliations. Lois donated to the Women's Veteran Memorial in Washington, DC. Following her service, she embarked on a distinguished career as a secretary at Corning, Inc., demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication. She gave to the WAVES National; organizations that honor the contributions of women in the military
A pillar of her community, Lois was an active member of the Charles E. Wescott Post 173 American Legion in Bath, the Bath V.F.W. 1470, and as a widow, she was part of the Bath Elks community. Her faith was important to her, and she was a member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Bath.
Lois's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her loving son, Michael D. Hough of Bath; her cherished granddaughter, Desiree (Matt) Seals of Temecula, California; and her adored great-grandchildren, Jesse, Payton, and Jonathon. Lois's life was also touched by the love of her late husband, Fremond J. Hough, her daughter Deborah Hough, and her parents, George F. and Hazel P. (Mohl) Dreher LaPlaca, all of whom predeceased her.
Her life story is one of resilience and dedication, a narrative that serves as an inspiration to all who knew her. Lois's legacy is not only in the work she accomplished and the service she rendered but also in the values she instilled in her family and the countless lives she touched.
Burial will be held in the Bath National Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
