Lois Marie Jerske, 87, of Jefferson TWP., passed Friday with her family by her side at Geisinger/CMC. She is the widow of Frederick Jerske who passed in 1996. Born in Scranton, she is the daughter of the late Chester and Pearl (Kosin) Trudnowski. Lois earned her LPN from Lackawanna County Area Vocational Technical School. Lois was employed as a phone operator for the Sears Roebuck Company and retired from nursing at Allied Services Skilled Nursing.
For nearly 30 years, she lived with significant physical disabilities, yet never lost her love of gardening. Blessed with a true green thumb, she could grow just about anything—and once harvested, her skill at canning allowed her to preserve it with care and pride.
Lois is survived by four children, Sandra Matyjevich and husband Peter, Scranton, Paul Jerske and wife Marcia, Gouldsboro, William Jerske and wife Amy, Dupont, Frederick Jerske and wife Jennifer, Jefferson Twp., six grandchildren, Brittany Jerske and wife Jennifer, Gouldsboro, John, Jacob and Jackson Jerske, all of Jefferson TWP., Brandi and husband Quan Bryant, Gouldsboro and Gregory Matyjevich, Scranton, 7 great grandchildren. Two siblings, twin sister Carol Homisak, Jefferson Twp. and Marilyn Skaggs and husband John, VA, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick, parents Chester and Pearl, brothers inlaw, George Glucksnis and David Homisak.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10 am, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Elliott Cooke in the Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, 262 Railroad Avenue, West Scranton with interment to follow at Dunmore Cemetery. Viewing for family and friends will be on Tuesday, 5 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
