Lois Joyner Obituary

LOIS RAYE WILLIFORD JOYNER, 101, of Wilson County, NC passed away in her sleep on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 1:16 am. with her nurses and assistants at her bedside who had tended to her daily in a most loving way as if she were their own mother.

It's hard to find the words that would truly capture her spirit and the impact she made on those who came to know her. She loved her family and friends with all her heart. She was a peace lover and a peace maker. She grew up in Wilson County and never wanted to live anywhere else. She was a lifetime. member of the Elm City Missionary Baptist Church and faithfully served there.

Her hobbies included sewing, reading, planting and nurturing flowers. She was famous for her cooking, and she loved having dinner parties often. There were always at least two meats, vegetables galore, and two kinds of desserts. She and my dad Leroy Joyner (who passed away in 2005) were very health conscious, and they rode bikes until their knees wore out. Then they switched to walking every day except weekends. After their retirement from Thermatics Inc, traveling was a big part of their retirement years.

They loved the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN and went often. They also loved Dollywood in Pigeon Forge TN. For TV entertainment the best times were watching the NASCAR auto races and cheering for Chase Elliott, her favorite driver.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter Arlene Kincaid and husband Ira, nieces: Connie Petway and husband Larry, Bonnie Smith, Carol Bass and Wendy O'Brient. Nephews: Glenn Williford, Danny Harrell and wife Barbara, and Johnnie Harrell, Jr.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday October 3, 2025 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. 2800 Nash St N in Wilson NC. Pastor Gene Wells will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Elm City Missionary Baptist Church, PO Box 667, Elm City NC 27822.
