Lois Leedy, 100 of Waynesfield, went home to her Lord and Savior on February 9, 2026.
She was born on December 31, 1925, in Waynesfield to John and Nellie (Croy) Smith, who preceded her in death.
On April 12, 1945, she married Harry LaFollete, who preceded her in death. On December 17, 1949, she married Merle J. Leedy, who preceded her in death on December 23, 2007. They had just celebrated 58 years of marriage. Lois and Merle raised his two small children, which produced a great family.
Survivors include a daughter, Merlene (Gerald) Metzger of Delphos; a son, Dr. Marvin (Regran) Leedy of Akron; five grandchildren, Debra (Erik) Kissner of California, Matthew (Jennifer) Barnes of
Blacklick, OH, Dr. Jason (Heather) Leedy, of Pepper Pike, OR, Drake (Kimbra) Leedy of Illinois, and Laura (Brendan) Mulcahy of Connecticut; nine great-grandchildren, Samantha and Allison Kissner, Carter and Joshua Barnes, JR, Luke, Maxwell, and Brook Leedy, Margaretta and Davis Leedy, and Finnbar and Declan Mulcahy.
Lois was preceded in death by eight fun-loving brothers, Dwight (Marie) Smith, Bernard (Norma) Smith, Merl (Lucille) Smith, Roger (Geneva) Smith, John (Bonnie) Smith, Morris (Jan) Smith, two baby brothers, Ralph and Carl Smith, a baby sister, Betty smith, son-in-law, Austin Barnes, and brothers-in-law, Charles Sheets, Maurice Duggins, and Joe Gilroy.
Surviving are her sister, JoAnn Sheets Duggins, who has given her loving and watchful care since Merle's death, along with the help of JoAnn's children, Sheba Gilroy (deceased) Jeanie Waitman, and Dennis Sheets. Also surviving are her bonus sister, Gert Hickman; bonus children, Barbara Longbrake and Gary Theis; bonus niece, Judy Gilroy; bonus step-nephew, Chris Duggins; and her nieces, Tina (David (deceased)) Marker and Betty (Brian) Marker.
The world's greatest nieces and nephews, the Smith Clan: Gregory, Brenda, Regina, John, Joyce, Janice, Jerry (deceased), Richard, Judy (deceased), Jim, Doug, Linda, Patty (deceased), Donald (deceased), Chrissy, Laura, Barbara, Corky (deceased), Karen, Beverly (deceased), Dori, Wayne, Teddy (deceased), Chance (deceased), Sheba (deceased) Dennis, and Jeanie.
Lois' special angels were Elicia Waitman and Laura Mulcahy, who helped her through difficult periods and beyond, as well as her furry friends, Bubby, Missy, and Sami.
Lois was very unselfish. When she saw a need, she would take care of it. She was a wonderful hostess. For many years, she had the Smith Clan in her home for her Father's birthday and Thanksgiving. She always made you feel special as a guest of hers. Lois loved planting pretty flowers, fall canning, playing cards, especially in the last four years with John (Janet) Smith, watching Ohio State football and basketball, and the Cincinnati Reds.
During World War II, she worked at Superior Coach and Lima Tank Depot. Lois was a Foster Mother to eight young foster children. She retired from mealtime Restaurant and quoted that it was the happiest and best job she had ever worked, which made her a super and special waitress.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at CHILES-LAMAN FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES - EASTSIDE CHAPEL with Pastor Robert Waitman and Pastor Todd Tenaglia to officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 16, 2025, and again from 12:00 PM until the time of the service on Tuesday, both at the funeral home.
Lois was a member of Waynesfield Baptist Church (P.O. Box 397) and would like memorial contributions made to the church or to the Waynesfield Rescue Squad.
