Lois was born in Perley, MN, on January 17, 1924, to Alfred and Helga (Reierson) Ellenson. She attended public elementary school in Perley, MN, and graduated from high school in Glyndon, MN. Lois then attended Fargo Business College. She worked for Fargo Scales, the AAA office in Ada, MN, and Union Livestock Exchange in West Fargo, ND, as an accountant.
On April 20, 1953, Lois married Earl Northrop. They resided in West Fargo, ND, until moving to an acreage in Fargo, ND, where they raised quarter horses. For several years, Lois worked alongside Earl in their business, Northrop Dispatch, West Fargo, ND.
Lois enjoyed reading, horse shows, gardening and traveling. She was also active in church activities at Hope Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; siblings, Holly Thoe Kreisler, Harriett Schulenberg, Glen Ellenson and Hubert Ellenson. She is survived by her son, Rolf (Joanne) Hanson, Tracy, MN; stepchildren, Frank (Judi) Northrop, Unionville, VA, Allen (Cheryl) Northrop, Omaha, NE, Theodore (Janie) Northrop, Gilbert, AZ and Mary Lou Bradford, Apache Junction, AZ; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service: Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 10 AM, West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour before the service.
Interment: Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at 3 PM, at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
