Lois Priser

Lois Mae Priser (nee Hahn), of Saint Charles, MO, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the tender age of 102. Beloved wife of the late Jacob W. Priser; cherished daughter of the late Melvin and Irene Hahn. Devoted mother of Gail (Alan) Walters; loving grandmother of Allison (Bryan) Walters-Garrison, Peter Walters, Rachel Priser, Beth Linkes, and Samantha Moore and several great grandchildren; dear former mother-in-law of Susan Catalina. Preceded in death by her son, Steven Priser.

Lois was married to the love of her life, Jacob, for 38 wonderful years until his passing. She dedicated over 40 years to volunteering, first through her church and later with FISH of St. Charles County. Lois had a passion for reading, cooking old Indiana home recipes, and solving crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and scrabble. A woman of deep faith, she was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church in St. Charles and participated in several duties including cleaning sanctuary pews, replacing hymnals, helping with the newsletter, scheduling greeters, and helping with communion preparation.

Lois penned her own obituary in 1994 at age 71, on a Royal Electric typewriter. She could not have guessed that she would live another 31 years after husband Jake died of lung cancer in 1978. She was born the third of five girls inside her Grandmother Kline’s house in South Bend, IN. In WWII like many other women, Lois worked in a factory making bomb casings while Jake was in the Army overseas. The ladies in this trade came to be known as Rosie the Riveters. During her lifetime she saw five main wars involving the U.S. and saw 15 presidents take office.

She is best known as one of the handful of people who saw a need for food and clothing to families in St. Charles County, MO. And in 1969 the volunteers established FISH (Friends in Serving Him). In her later years, her co-worker volunteers agreed that she was very pleasant but had her own way of doing things and insisted that the others follow suit. Imagine not getting paid and being bossed around by a 95-year-old. The Pantry was renamed “Lois’s Lovin Pantry” in her honor when she retired from FISH, and the plaque is still hanging at the Pantry entrance.

Lois was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
