Obituary of Lois Marie Read
In Loving Memory
Lois Marie Read
Lois Marie (Branch) Read left us suddenly on February 25, 2024. She leaves behind to mourn her husband of 64 years Wesley Read, daughter Julia Marie Read-Bush and husband Frank Bush, son Wesley Lee Read and wife Mae Read, son Steven Read and wife Kinya Read, grandchildren Asim Abdur-Rahim, Jamila Abdur-Rahim, Chantal Bush, Antoine Read, Erica Read- Williams, Steven Read Jr, Wesley Lee Read Jr, Maegan Read, DeShawn Read, great-grands Corey Paige Jr, Zakia Yeboah-Bey, Kareema Abdur-Rahim, Derrick Craig (Bush), Amari Rodriguez (Bush), Jade Read, Jalissa Read, sister Maggie Branch Peoples, brother Lee Andrews Branch, sister Gladys Branch Pauley, and a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends. Her predeceased brothers and sisters are Susie Branch Wray, Mae Virginia Branch, Johnnie Branch Jr, Dillard Branch, Cecil Branch.
Born in Pendleton, North Hampton County North Carolina, she attended and graduated from the Willis Hare Highschool. She met and married Wesley Read. They moved to Baltimore in the early 1960s.
Lois had a kind heart and a gentle spirit. She would help anyone who needed it. She obtained her Licensed Practical Nurse certificate in 1966 and began a nursing career with South Baltimore General Hospital (now Harbor Hospital). After a long career of 35 years, she retired.
Lois loved to spend time with her family and friends and was the biggest "cheerleader" behind every milestone of her children and grandchildren. Her enjoyments over the years included bowling, fishing, hosting bus trips to various places like Atlantic City and Canada, photo collecting, going to gospel singing programs and plays, a little doll collecting, playing games on her computer, meeting friends/family at her favorite restaurants to catch-up and just be together, and for many years, coordinated the Branch Family Reunion, a long-standing tradition.
Lois will be missed immensely by her family and friends. May you rest in eternal peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The family gratefully acknowledges the many kind and beautiful expressions of sympathy and love shown through your cards, phone calls, and support during our time of bereavement.
