Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, LtdLois E. Smith, 95, of Carlisle, passed away February 11, 2026, at Cumberland Crossings.
Born July 31, 1930, in Martinsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Avery and Fannie (Stern) Kanode. Lois celebrated 73 years of marriage to Glenn Smith Sr.
Lois is survived by; her husband, Glenn Smith Sr.; her children, Glenn Smith Jr. (Mary Ann) of Carlisle, Gary Smith (Sandy) of Carlisle, Joy Thomas (Robert) of Lewes, DE, Lisa McCleaf (Bill) of Lewisberry; grandchildren, Leah Richwine (Matthew), Mark Smith (Meggan), Tyler Smith (Alyssa), Megan Clark (Dave), Michelle Zerphey (Travis), Ashley Thomas (Josh); 9 great-grandchildren and one sister, Beulah Charles.
In addition to her parents, Lois is preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Joan Smith and 6 brothers and sisters.
Lois worked at Konhaus Farms for 25 years as a cook in the deli department. After that, she worked at Karns for an additional 10 years. She was a talented quiltmaker, gardener, baker and seamstress. Throughout all of Lois' busy life, she enjoyed spending time with her family the most. Glenn and Lois attended Mechanicsburg Brethren In Christ Church where Lois was a Sunday School teacher, and both served as deacons for over 20 years. Lois also sang in a ladies quartet at the church for a number of years. When Glenn worked as facility manager at the Carlisle Brethren In Christ Church they transferred their membership there and was active in the church there as well.
A Memorial Service for Lois will be held on Friday February 27, 2026, at 3pm at The Meeting House – Carlisle Campus, 1155 Walnut Bottom, Rd, Carlisle, PA 17015, with a visitation from 2pm until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to The Meeting House- Carlisle Campus.
