Lon Andrew Rogers, Sr., 72, of Port Byron, IL, formerly of Cordova, IL, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023 at home. Private Graveside Services will be held at Fairfield Cemetery, Port Byron. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 3–7 pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at King Pins Saloon in Fulton, IL. Memorials may be made to
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or University of Iowa Holden Cancer Center.
Lon was born on April 26, 1950 in Moline, IL, to Houston and Leona (Parris) Rogers. He graduated from Riverdale High School in 1968. Lon married Sandy Miller on October 11, 1996. He worked for 3M in Cordova as a warehouse specialist for 32 ½ years, retiring in 2008. Prior to his career at 3M he worked as a police officer.
Lon was raised and baptized in the Fairfield Methodist Church where he was a dedicated member. He was also a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church for a few years, and a volunteer firefighter for the Cordova Fire Protection District. Lon loved farming in Larchwood, IA with his sister-in-law and her husband, Sherry and Paul Koch. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and the trips he and Sandy took with it. Lon also enjoyed playing golf, shooting darts and target practice with his guns.
Lon is survived by his wife, Sandy; children, Scott (Holly) Rogers of Cordova, IL, Melissa (Shawn) Schillinger of Cordova, IL, Lon (Wendy) Rogers, Jr. of Port Byron, IL, Bill (Kris) Pruett of Wadsworth, OH, and Tina Pruett of Silvis, IL; sisters, Ruth Klundt of Hillsdale, IL, and Mary Shenk of Davenport, IA; 10 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
