Dr. Schmidt was a distinguished scholar and educator whose expertise in molecular genetics and genetic engineering inspired generations of students. Her academic journey reflected a lifelong commitment to excellence. She earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1982, a Master of Science degree from Loma Linda University in 1968, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Andrews University in 1961.
During her more than three decades at Oakwood, Dr. Schmidt was known for her rigorous scholarship, her passion for science, and her unwavering dedication to her students. She challenged young minds to think critically, to explore deeply, and to pursue truth with curiosity and integrity.
The Oakwood University community mourns the loss of a remarkable educator and colleague, and we extend our heartfelt condolences to Dr. Schmidt's family, friends, students, and all who were touched by her life and legacy.
